Arlene Anderson Obituary

Arlene Anderson, of Dawson, died Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson, MN at the age of 87.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Pastor Kendall Stelter officiating.  Burial will be in the church Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Arlene (Bergstrom) Anderson was born on January 16, 1931 in Wabasso, MN to Victor and Hazel (Jacobsen) Bergstrom.  She was one of 13 children.    She was confirmed and baptized in Wabasso.  She graduated from Wabasso High School.  Following high school Arlene went to work in Marshall and that is where she met John Anderson.  They were married on May 14, 1952 in Wabasso.  They lived for a short period of time in South Carolina because John was in the military.  John and Arlene then returned to Madison to live and moved to Dawson in about 1960.  They had three children: Rick, Mike and Sherri.   Arlene was a daycare provider for several years and then worked at the Dawson Bakery.

Arlene was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson and was active in circles and the women’s organization.  She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, gardening with both vegetables and flowers, and camping.  Family remembers that Arlene was always baking.  Arlene’s family would anxiously await her apple bars for family reunions.  Arlene also had a green thumb and could keep houseplants alive for many years.

Arlene is survived by her children: Sherri (Jeff) Ellefson, Springfield, MN, Mike (Sue) Anderson, Winthrop, MN and Rick Anderson, Dawson, MN; four grandchildren: Tera (Chris Wand) Ellefson, Josh Ellefson, Jacob Anderson and Derek Anderson; brothers: Duke (Dianne) Bergstrom, Butch Bergstrom, Chester (Tilly) Bergstrom, Doug (Connie) Bergstrom, and Robert Bergstrom; sisters: Norie Bernardy, Betty (Winnie) Anderson, Lois (Bill) Thiede and Judy (Bob) Schultz as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John in 2008; brothers: Eugene, Jake and sister, Lorraine.

May her memory be blessed.
