Howard William Ellefson

February 5, 1932 ~ September 22, 2017 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Howard Ellefson died Friday, September 22, 2017 at Johnson Memorial Care Center at the age of 85.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church.  Rev. Kendall Stelter will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery. 

Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 5-7:00 PM at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.

Howard William Ellefson was born February 5, 1932 in Dawson to Elmer and Grace (Gage) Ellefson.  He was baptized and confirmed at Riverside Church in Dawson.  Howard attended school in Dawson, graduating in 1950.  

Howard married Jean Hveem on March 9, 1953 at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown, SD.  Three children joined this union: Curtis Hveem, Vickie, and Michael Ellefson. 

Howard lived his whole life in Dawson. He worked for Michaelson Road Construction until he bought Spotty Pool Hall.  He had the Pool Hall for 12 years, and then sold it and worked at Dawson Mills for 23 years.  Howard was also a retired fireman

Howard enjoyed going to their lake home, many winters out in California, playing cards, Bingo, and having coffee with family and friends.  He also enjoyed wood working.  Howard had a great sense of humor and could always tell a good joke.  

Howard is survived by his children: Curtis (Vickie) Hveem of San Diego, CA, Vickie (David) Grow of Dawson, and Michael (Lydia) Ellefson of Riverside, CA; grandchildren: Jessie (John) Williams, Nate (Amie) Peterson, Tad (Krista) Peterson, Justin Wiltshire, Brendon (Jessica) Hawley, Keaton Taylor, and Laura Hveem; great-grandchildren: Kellen and Colton Williams, Barrett Peterson, Ayla Hawley, Bailey Peterson, and Alyssa Stangeland; nieces; and many friends.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; wife, Jean in 2016; brother, Robert; aunts; uncles; and cousins.
