Irene Violet (Miller) Thompson

Irene Thompson, of Boyd, passed away on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Johnson Memorial Care Center at the age of 97. 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson, MN.  Rev. Kendall Stelter will officiate and interment will be in Dawson Cemetery.  

Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 from 5-7 PM at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson with a prayer service at 7 PM.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. 

Irene Violet (Miller) Thompson was born on November 26, 1920 in Dawson, MN to Henry and Violet (Connor) Miller.  She attended school in Dawson and graduated in 1938.  On October 7, 1945 Irene was united in marriage to Elmer Clarence Thompson at the First Presbyterian Church parsonage in Dawson.  She worked several jobs after graduation, then spent most of her time at home raising her six children.  

Irene was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she attended Bible study frequently.  She was exceptionally faithful and expressed her faith a great deal through many, many prayers.  Irene loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly, and found joy in attending her grandchildren’s school events throughout the years.  She also enjoyed flowers/gardening, canning, sewing, doing crossword puzzles, and playing cards, especially Hand and Foot.  She liked to visit her children at the lake, meet new friends, and enjoyed games and camp fires.  Irene was a caring, compassionate, and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She will be remembered for her spunky personality, always keeping her sense of humor, and never having a complaint. 

Irene is survived by her six children: Evie (Loren) of Belle Plaine, MN, Clarence of Boyd, MN, Michael (Kim) of Dawson, MN, Steven (Judy) of Greensboro, NC, Jeffrey (Ardyce) of Boyd, MN, and Jon of Willmar, MN; eleven grandchildren: Theresa Fetsch, Bev (Dale) Chard, Jamie (Heather) Thompson, Corey (Kristy) Thompson, Nathan (Jesi) Martinson, Lora (Jason) Ebeling, Stephanie (Jason) Morris, Kerry (Mike) Puzak, Desiree (Cory) Lynch, Jenna Thompson, and Deidre (Brandon) Boese; 24 great-grandchildren: Cassie Fetsch, Kylie, Cortney and Nicole Chard, Griffin, Preston and Breck Thompson, Seth Thompson, Hunter, Matthew, Paisley and Isabella Martinson, Tyler, Tanner, Chandler, Hannah and Sarah Ebeling, Rachel, Evan and Kailey Morris, Brandt and Derek Puzak, Brooklynn and Brenden Lynch; and her sister-in-law, Bonieta Miller of Dawson. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer in 1989; brother, George H. Miller; sisters, Florence Craigmile and Rachel LeVasseur; brothers-in-law, Donald Craigmile and James LeVasseur; daughter-in-law, Jean Thompson in 1989; and grandson, Jordan Martinson in 2004.
