Mavis (Oman) Bengtson was born on May 24, 1926 in Riverside Township to Arthur and Nettie Mae (Pratt) Oman.  She grew up and attended school in the Boyd and Dawson area.  Being 9 years older than her oldest brother, she often told stories of caring for her younger brothers. She loved living on the farm and spoke fondly of being by her fathers side in the barn and in the field when she could and also helping her mother in the home growing up. Following high school she attended teacher's  training in Mankato and talked of enjoying her students while teaching country school in rural Dawson. Mavis met her loving husband Lee “Nick” Bengtson in Mankato, while at training and they were married within a few months. Initially the couple made their home in the Dawson and Montevideo area until Nick was offered a job in the Mankato area. They relocated to Kasota and Mankato area where they spent most of their married and working years. About 10 years ago the couple relocated to Montevideo to be nearer to family.

Mavis enjoyed all aspects of homemaking, she was an excellent cook and seamstress and her true love was caring for husband of over 65 years. She worked in retail for a few years prior to retirement, loved to read, enjoyed music and talked of traveling the states during vacations with Nick. Mavis had a deep love for all animals and was always happiest when there was one on her lap. Her home was always welcoming to family and company.

Family remember Mavis for her delightful disposition, her thoughtful ways, her deep love for Nicky, and her faith.

Mavis is survived by her husband: Lee "Nick" of Montevideo; niece, Shari Malecek of Montevideo;  nephew: Kevin (Julie) Oman of Dawson, and six great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Gailen Oman and Lowell Oman.
