Keith Hanson Obituary

Keith Hanson of Madison, WI died on Thursday, May 28,2020 at the Madison Veterans Hospital at the age of 71 as the result of cancer.

Memorial graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 11:00AM at Lac qui Parle Lutheran Church with Pastor Bruce Bringle officiating.  

Keith Hanson was born on April 16, 1949 in Dawson, Minnesota to Lloyd and Lauraine (Anderson) Hanson.   He was confirmed at Lac qui Parle Lutheran Church by Pastor Clarence Hauge.  He always retained fond memories of growing up in Lac qui Parle County on the family farm, and the many family and friends.

He attended Rural district #4 before consolidation into Dawson Public Schools from which he graduated in 1967.  He attended the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis for a short time in the electrical engineering program before enlisting in the United States Air Force.  He served from October 1968 to June 1972.  He trained as an electronics and communications technician and served overseas at Third Air Force Headquarters (USAFE) near London, England with duty assignments in many countries in Africa and Europe.  He worked as a maintenance electrician in factories in Minneapolis and Texas.

Keith enjoyed reading about international events, economics and technology developments.  In later years he was especially interested in renewable energy and storage in high efficiency batteries.  His interests always focused on positive ways to do things that were more efficient.

Keith struggled for many years with mental health issues.  He received tremendous help from VA staff and case workers.  The family requests memorial to the Disabled American Vets which helps many Veterans to live with dignity and obtain necessary health care.

Keith is survived by his brothers: Lynn (Claudine), Poynette, WI, Harold, Moorhead, MN; nephews David Hanson, Poynette, WI, Daniel Hanson, Waukesha, WI and their children as well as several aunts and a number of cousins and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers family is requesting memorials to Disabled American Vets.
