Douglas Gene Harberts was born October 8th 1946 to Clarence and Irene Harberts in Dawson, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at The First Presbyterian Church. He attended country school in rural Dawson until 8th grade where he always told us how he walked up hill both ways with a baked potato in his pocket. He also attended Dawson High School.  Doug worked for Larson Tiling in Dawson. Then for many years was an owner operator of Doug Harberts Trucking, hauling many loads of grain and hay to the Twin Cities. Later he owned Doug Harberts Liquid Manure Hauling, which he ran until he retired.  In 1974 he was married to Kay, together they raised 5 children: Todd, Tami, Lisa, Laura & Jodi. Doug made his home in Dawson, and raised his family there.

Doug loved having his family and friends over on Saturday nights for grilled steak and a “cold Budweiser”. He was a “jack of all trades”, and enjoyed working on anything with a motor in it whether it was race cars in his youth, to semis, tractors and lawn mowers. He enjoyed hobby farming and raising cows and chickens for a few years. Later he enjoyed going to threshing shows and tractor pulls, which he participated in, and working on antique tractors and lawn mowers. Driving one of his John Deere tractors in local parades with one of the grandkids always brought a smile to his face. He loved listening to Saturday polka music and collecting his “treasures”.  He loved visiting with the grandchildren and especially his great-grandchildren.

Doug is survived by his children: Todd (Carla) Petersen, Tami (Chad) Tilbury, Lisa (Tony) Cremers, Laura (Adam) Eckstrom and Jodi (Jason) Hansen; grandchildren: Lacey (Brandon), Kasjen (Mikayla), Krystal (Dan), Jen (Sheridan), Josie (Noah), Kelli (Taylor), Jacob, Addyson, Billy (Jenece), Austin, Kolin, Carter, Joshua and Johanna; great-grandchildren: Griffin, Olivia, Jackson, Everly, Charlie, Aubry and Baby Larson; siblings: Delores (Donny) Ochs, Bonnie (Rod) Portele, Linda Tollakson, Ilene Lehmann, Judy (Roger) Mead, Shirley (Mel), Debra (Duane) Mead; brothers-in-law: Jerry Willis and Mike Erp.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Kay; parents: Clarence and Irene; mother and father-in-law; twin brother, Dennis; brothers: Curtis and Roger; sisters: Beverly and Cheryl; brothers-in-law: DuWayne Lehmann, Roger Tollakson and Lee Wiese; sisters-in-law: Ardyce and Linda Harberts;; and many other family members and friends.

Doug will be truly missed.
