Roger Joseph Borstad was born in Madison, MN on May 29, 1933 to Joseph and Sylvia (Moen) Borstad.  He was baptized at Hegre Lutheran Church.  The family moved to a farm in Baxter Township.  He was confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter.  He attended country school at District 8, and then graduated from Dawson High School in 1952. Roger married Grace Ausen on November 6, 1955 at Riverside Lutheran in Dawson.  He was drafted into the United States Army serving from 1956 until 1958  in France.  Following his service, Roger returned to the family farm where he and Grace raised their three children: Mike, Larry and Kim. They spent most of their lives on the farm until retiring, then moved into Dawson.

Farming was Roger’s calling and he loved being out on the land.  He was a long time member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter and was active in the church.  Roger enjoyed getting together with friends and neighbors for card parties, steak frys, and attending the boys basketball state tournament in the cities.  Roger and Grace enjoyed traveling, watching TV, playing cards and marbles with their family and friends.  His family and grandchildren were very important to him, and he looked forward to being able to get together for family events and watch grandchildren participate in their church and school events.  Roger had a great sense of humor and could always make you smile, his smiles were contagious.  He always liked to have a good laugh, and especially loved teasing the grandchildren.

Roger is survived by his children: Mike (Joyce) of Chandler, AZ, Larry (Karen) Borstad of Dawson, MN and Kim (Tom) Schneider of Sauk Centre, MN: five grandchildren: Stacy (Nick) Girard, Granite Falls, MN, Sean Schneider, Sauk Rapids, MN, Karla (Matt) Wagner, West Fargo, ND, Amber Borstad, Marshall, MN and Ryan Borstad, Dawson; two great-grandchildren: Callie and Christian Girard, Granite Falls, MN; brother Stuart (Marlys) Borstad, Madison; brother-in-law, Billy Thompson, Milan; as well as extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Sylvia; his wife, Grace in May 10, 2010; a brother, Merlin (Dona) Borstad; and 2 sisters, Dorothy Olsten and Deloris Thompson.
