Roger Harberts Obituary

Roger Harberts, of Madison, died on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at the Madison Hospital at the age of 78. 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church in Madison with Rev. Eric Spickelmier officiating.  Burial will be in Dawson Cemetery. 

Visitation with the family will be held from 5 - 7 PM on Friday, August 10, 2018 at Calvary Baptist with a prayer service starting at 5 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday.  Arrangements are with Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson. 

Roger was born on February 16, 1940 in George, IA to Clarence and Irene (Van Briesen) Harberts.  Roger attended Dawson High School and graduated in 1958.  He married Ardyce Kanstrup along with her two children: Dan and Lori.  After Ardyce passed away, he was united in marriage to Carol (Christensen) on March 23, 1979 at the First Presbyterian Church in Dawson.  They resided in Dawson, as well as other numerous places, before eventually settling in Madison in 1985. 

Roger had a love for farming and raising livestock with Carol. He drove truck for Viessman Trucking until retiring in 2001. He loved conversing with all people and could make friends with anyone.  Roger was a kind-hearted man who loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  He will be dearly missed. 

Roger is survived by his wife, Carol; children: Dan (Sue Hoff) Harberts, Lori Harberts and Chad (Michelle Schmitt) Mortenson; seven grandchildren: Brandon and Brian, Nathan and Danielle and Raven, Kylee and Camryn; nine great-grandchildren; eight sisters: Delores (Donny) Ochs, Beverly (Gerald) Willis, Bonnie (Rod) Portele, Linda Tollakson, Ilene Lehmann, Judy (Roger) Mead, Shirley (Mel) Svoboda and Debra (Duane) Mead; one brother, Douglas Harberts; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ardyce; son, Scott; two brothers: Curtis and Dennis Harberts; and one sister, Cheryl Erp.
