Ruth Moen

Ruth Moen, of Dawson, died Thursday afternoon, December 30, 2010, at the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson at the age of 89. Visitation was only be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral was at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, Jan 4, at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastors Kendall Stelter and Keith Long officiating; scripture lessons were Psalm 46:1-8, Romans 5:1-5, I Corinthians 15:12-26 and John 11:21-27; organist, Jeanne Peterson accompanied the singing of "Borning Cry", "On Eagle's Wings" and "Now Thank We All Our God." Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were casketbearers and burial was in Terrace Lawn Cemetery, rural Montevideo. Ruth Caroline Moen was born on November 4, 1921, in Riverside Township, rural Dawson to Ole T. and Bertha (Iverson) Jordahl. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dawson and attended country school in District 102 in rural Dawson. Ruth was united in marriage to Rueben W. Moen on January 19, 1941. Sandra Kay was born to this union. Rueb and Ruth ran a restaurant in Boyd, owner and operated the Corner Inn in Dawson, and Ruth worked part-time at the Dawson Liquor Store, where Rueb was the manager. Ruth loved visiting with people, always joking or having a saying. She also enjoyed bowling, reading, playing cards, going on bus tours, and cooking, especially potato dumplings for her family and friends. She moved into an apartment when she moved from her home and then, after failing health, moved into the Johnson Memorial Care Center, where she died on Thursday afternoon, December 30, 2010, at the age of 89. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (John) Hage of Fergus Falls; 3 grandchildren: Cory Hage, Michele Stroud and Darren (Sara) Hage, all of Fergus Falls; 2 great-grandchildren: Mikayla Stroud and Roric Hage; brothers: Arne Jordahl and Philip (Blanche) Jordahl of Dawson; sister, Alice Johnson of Madison; sister-in-law, Jean Jordahl of Alexandria; and other family and many friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Rueben on December 9, 1982; brothers: Thore and Carl Jordahl; and sisters: Anna Perkins, Olga Winge and Thelma Ritter. Blessed be her memory.
