Ruth G. (Engstrand) Motyka

Ruth G. Motyka, Dawson, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson, MN at the age of 89.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Providence Valley Lutheran Church rural Dawson with Rev. Kendall Stelter officiating.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Ruth Georgiana (Engstrand) Motyka was born in Dawson to Albert and Mary (Hinderer) Engstrand on November 10, 1927.  She was baptized and confirmed at Providence Valley Lutheran Church.  She attended school in Dawson and graduated from Dawson High School in 1945. She attended one year of beauty school in 1947. Later, she would attend business college in 1972. She was married to Frank Motyka on May 16, 1953 in Los Angeles, CA. This marriage was dissolved in 1957.  They had one child together, Frank.

Ruth worked as a beautician in Minneapolis and in Madison at Donna’s Beauty Shop.  She later moved to Tucson, Arizona, where she worked for the Tucson Gas and Electric Company for 19 years before retiring.   While living in Tucson, Ruth volunteered at a local hospital one afternoon a week for over 16 years.  She was also very involved at her local church in Tucson.   She returned to Dawson in September of 2008.  Ruth enjoyed reading, traveling, and knitting.

Ruth is survived by her son, Frank of Dawson; sister, Norma Sandrock of Woodbury; niece, Mary (Gary) Bender; nephews, Eric (Kim) Sandrock and Mark Engstrand;.daughter-in-law, Suzanne Motyka, and four great nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Raymond (Alice) Engstrand and Donald (Lillian) Engstrand; and brother-in-law, Milton Sandrock.
