Alice Wehrkamp was born November 10, 1929 in Baxter Township, Lac qui Parle County to Carl and Ella (Hemstad) Erickson.  She was baptized on January 1, 1930 and confirmed in 1942 at Our Saviours Lutheran Church of Baxter. Alice’s father died when she was 7 years old so her mother was left to raise 4 children and that is when Alice found the joy of housekeeping.  Instead of working outside on the farm she would do the inside work and this carried through all of her life.   She attended country school and then graduated from Montevideo High School.

Following high school she worked as a bookkeeper in Montevideo.  She met James Wehrkamp at a dance in Montevideo and they were married on February 28, 1953 at Our Saviours Lutheran Church of Baxter.  When James was in the Army, Alice traveled with him to the various places he was stationed across the southern United States.  Following his discharge they moved back to farm in rural Montevideo.  They had two children: Joel and Peggy.  Alice worked on the farm and was a homemaker.

Alice enjoyed baking, gardening, sewing, puzzles and reading.  She would always have sweets in the house, baking cookies, bars, and pies.  She also was a good cook and family remembers the casseroles she would make for family and friends.  Alice was a member of Jevnaker Lutheran Church and was very active in the church in ladies aid, altar guild and quilting.  She enjoyed being active and spent a lot of time playing cards with family and friends.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Peggy (Mitch) Reynolds, Pipestone, MN; grandchildren: Andy (Coral)Wehrkamp, Montevideo, MN, Nicole (Chris) Mahlum, Sacred Heart, MN, Mason (Whitney)Reynolds, Pipestone, MN, Aaron Reynolds, Pipestone, MN; great-grandchildren: Averi, Oliver, Harbor, Peyton, Tucker; sister, Marion Storlien, Dawson, MN as well as extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; son, Joel; sister Mildred; and brother, Charles.
May her memory be blessed.
