Gilmore Greseth Obituary

Gilmore Greseth died peacefully Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Meadow Lane Home in Benson at the age of 85.  His son Shawn, daughter-in-law Lorie and Reverend Bruce Bringle were with him when he passed.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church.  Rev. Bringle will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the church for one hour before the service on Sunday.  Arrangements are with Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson.

Gilmore Robert Greseth was born July 23, 1936 in Madison, MN, the son of Theodore and Louise (Morseth) Greseth. Gilmore was baptized and confirmed at Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church.  He grew up in Cerro Gordo Township attending country school and then Milan High School where he played football and graduated in 1954. Gilmore then joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Okinawa, Japan.

He was united in marriage with Carol Freeman in 1962. Together they farmed and raised five children on the Greseth farms on Lac Qui Parle Lake.  Gilmore loved farm life.  Gilmore supported his children’s activities by volunteering with Scouting and 4-H.

In addition to farming, Gilmore co-operated a goose hunting and camping business where his hospitality was appreciated by many loyal hunters.  Gilmore also worked in commercial construction with the LIUNA union.  He was proud to work on several local buildings including the Lac Qui Parle Valley High School. Gilmore then worked on the Dakota Access Keystone Pipeline project. Gilmore found great purpose in working and did so until he retired in 2013, at age 77.

Gilmore enjoyed antique farm machinery, especially John Deere equipment. He attended Threshing Bee’s and the Draft Horse Field Days annually. He frequented area farm sales and auctions; and was a member of the Cast Iron Seat Collectors Association.

Gilmore was active with the Lac qui Parle County Historical Society, and a supporter of Global Missions.  He greatly enjoyed conversations with friends. Gilmore spoke fluent Norwegian and enjoyed all the Norwegian delicacies. He seldom missed a Swedish meatball and mashed potato dinner, but never missed a Lutefisk dinner.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and his former wife Carol Greseth.

Gilmore is survived by his five children and thirteen grandchildren. Shawn (Lorie) Greseth, children Grace and Maxwell of Minnetrista, MN; Kelly Greseth of Willmar, MN; Susan (Dave) Ochs, children Abbygail, Bennett, Blaise of Oak Ridge, TN; Steven (Beth) Greseth, children Annabelle, Lincoln, Liesel of Louisville, KY; Graham (Andrea) Greseth, children Graham Jr., Jed, Fletcher, Jude, and Winnie of Rogers, MN.

The family would like to thank Gilmore’s cousin Philip Greseth for his lifelong friendship, devotion, and kindness to Dad.
