Joseph Bolstad Obituary

Joe Bolstad died Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson at the age of 90.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 10, 2020 at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Dawson.  Pastor Herbert Rotunda will officiate and interment will be in the Dawson Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Sunday, August 9 at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home from 5-7:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:45 PM.  There will also be visitation at the church for one hour before the service.

Joseph Kent Starr Bolstad, Jr. was born November 21, 1929 at Dawson, MN the son of Joseph and Marion (Starr) Bolstad.  He served in the US Army in the early 1950's and was stationed in Germany.  Joe was united in marriage with Dorothy Hoyles November 30, 1952 at the First Presbyterian Church in Dawson.  To this union: Bruce, Jeff, Marcia, James and Michael were born.  They made their home on the farm where he farmed with his father.  Joe worked for AGP  For 24 years starting as a dryer operator and ending as and extraction operator.  Joe would counsel other farmers on how to cope after they had been in an accident.  He was a Mason and also a member of the VFW and American Legion.  Dorothy died October 2, 2006.  Joe moved into the assisted living in 2017 and later to the care center.  He loved his Honda Helix and later his electric scooter,  polka music which he often turned up just a little, and also going to stock car races.

He is survived by his children: Bruce of Dawson, MN, Jeff (Mary Jo) of Brookings, SD, Marcia (Asif) Akhter of Ham Lake, MN, James of Colorado Springs, CO, and Michael (Janelle) of Ocean Springs, MS; seven grandchildren: Saeed (Julie) Akhter, Laila (Mohamed Asif Mohamed Shariff) Akhter, Tanya (Nelson) Harris, Justin and Amber Bolstad, Jason (Heather) Bolstad, and Alyssa (Austin) Steele; eleven great-grandchildren; and extended family.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Dorothy; and a stillborn granddaughter, Everly Bolstad.
