Peggy Jane (Haugen) Hill

Peggy Hill, of Dawson, passed away Friday, February 25, 2022 at the age of 65, surrounded by her loving family at her home.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 5, 2022 from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson, MN with a Private Family Memorial Service to follow.

Memorials are preferred to Dawson Cemetery Association.

Peggy Jane Haugen was born February 27th, 1956 in Appleton, MN to Sidney and Janice (Arndt) Haugen.  She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, both in Chokio, MN.  Peggy graduated from Chokio-Alberta High School in 1974.  After high school she attended the University of Minnesota and Southwest Minnesota State University. She was united in marriage to Paul Hill on February 13th, 1983 at the Presbyterian Church in Dawson, MN. They made their home outside of Dawson, where Peggy spent 28 years as the Food Service Director at Dawson-Boyd Schools.

Peggy was a member of the Sons of Norway and had a great interest in her family genealogy. She recently planned a month long trip to Norway and Germany where she had the opportunity to meet her extended family members. Peggy looked forward to her yearly trips to Key West, FL where she and Paul spent many winters together.  She also loved to get together and spend time with her close friends. 

Peggy enjoyed spending time in the garden shed/greenhouse Paul built for her and had a gift for creating beautiful flower beds and arrangements. Each fall she dedicated time to canning and freezing all of the produce from her vegetable garden and orchard. 

More than anything, Peggy loved spending time with her family. Being a mother and grandmother was the highlight of her life. She treasured time spent with her nine grandchildren. Baking cookies, camping trips, spending time around the pool, and sleepovers at the farm were just a few of the wonderful activities that will forever be cherished.

She is survived by her husband, Paul; children, Matthew (Maria) Rosdahl of Alpharetta, GA, Kristina (Nick) Gruwell of Dawson, MN, and Sarah (Shane) Birdsall of Maynard, MN; grandchildren, Presten Gruwell, Ethan Hill, Liliana Birdsall, Kaedan Rosdahl, Katelynn Gruwell, Logan Rosdahl, Nora Gruwell, Liam Birdsall and Joslynn Rosdahl; sisters, Pam (Bob) Boraas of Benson, MN and Paula (Mike) Olson of Walker, MN; and numerous extended family and friends.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Steven Haugen; sister, Patty Ashling; and nephew, Jesse Ashling.
