Evelyn Mary Nelson was born at her Aunt Belle’s home in Appleton, MN to Charles and Mary Jane (Snyder) Carl on May 18, 1919.  She attended and graduated from Appleton High School in 1938.  Following graduation she took Nurse’s training at the Dawson Hospital.  She met Marvin Nelson and they were married at the Congregational Church in Appleton, MN on September 21, 1941.  They lived in Dawson for a short period of time following their marriage until they built an additional home on the family homestead east of Dawson.  Marvin and Evelyn were blessed with two children: Greg and Bryan.

Evelyn was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies group at church.  Evelyn  enjoyed traveling with Marvin and her sons and the family made many trips to Itasca State Park when the boys were young.  Evelyn had also traveled with Marvin to all 50 states as well as Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Canada and Mexico.  Later, they would enjoy Grand Marais, MN as their home away from home.  Following Marvin’s death in 2002, Evelyn continued to live in Dawson and eventually moved to Belview, MN in 2010.

Evelyn is survived by her children: Greg (Ione) of rural Dawson, and Bryan (Sue) of rural Redwood Falls, four grandchildren: Marvin (Jillian) Nelson, Rebecca (Evan) Sturzl, Jonathan (special friend Anne) Nelson and Krista (Tom) Okins and three great-grandchildren: Charles, Ingrid, and Hailey.
